Chile approves 20 MW biomass project for Biobio region

In a move to mitigate the country’s growing demand for electricicty, the environmental committee ofà‚ Chile’s Bàƒ­o Bàƒ­o region has approved a 20 MW biomass project. Local firm Energàƒ­a Pura will undertake the construction.

The project will be located in the Mulchen municipality and is expected to generate an average of 168 GWh per year. Its power will be transmitted to the Central Interconnected System (SIC).

The power station could cost as much as $42m. The construction works will take about a year, according to the environmental impact declaration presented at the end of 2013.
