Celsia expands Central American reach

Colombia’s fourth largest power producer is expanding its sphere of interest in Central America, buying stakes in seven power plants in Panama and Costa Rica.
Celsia is paying around $840m for the acquisitions, buying hydroelectric and thermal plants in Panama and a wind power plant in Costa Rica.

The deal, which Celsia expects to close by December, will add 535 MW of generating capacity, boosting the company’s total by 30 per cent.

It adds up to a total of 2,312 MW and breaks down as 367 MW of thermoelectric and 118 MW of hydroelectric generation as well as 50 MW of wind power capacity in Panama.
