The renewable energy project known as Desertec Industrial Initiative (DII) has suffered another blow with the news that Bosch Rexroth have decided to opt out of being an associate partner.

The company will not renew its membership when it comes up for renewal next month becoming the second high profile departure , following Siemens exit last month.

Economic conditions have been cited for the decision, with Bosch perceived as no longer enthusiastic about supporting solar energy. There is evidence also that the German company is considering the sale of its solar business altogether.

DII had planned to unveil the political framework supporting its Moroccan initiative – a 150 MW CSP plant last week but the Spanish government had delayed on committing, increasing frustration.

Appetite for mega project investment has faded since the DII was launched in 2009.
