The biggest solar farm in Wales was opened yesterday by the country’s first minister Carwen Jones.

The 1,200 KW site is near Cardigan in Pembrokeshire and was built by Welsh company Western Solar with the electricity generated distributed by Green Energy UK.

Glen Peters, managing director of Western Solar, said solar power offered “a lifeline” to rural economies in Wales. “It is our hope that the Welsh Assembly will establish a strong renewables policy that would help rural businesses like ours combat the rapidly escalating costs of energy.”
