Alstom clinches $130m hydro deal in Brazil

Alstom Renewable Power has won a €100m ($130m) deal to supply all electromechanical equipment to a 220 MW hydro plant in Brazil.

The contract is from Energias do Brazil ” a subsidiary of Portugal’s EDP Group ” and is for the Cachoeira Caldeiràƒ£o plant, which will be built on the Araguari river, in northern Brazil.

As part of the deal, Alstom Grid will also supply equipment for the plant’s internal substation. All of Alstom’s equipment for the project will be produced in Brazil

The plant ” which is due to be operational by 2017 ” is part of PAC 2, a Brazilian programme for growth acceleration, which will improve the country’s power generation capacity.

The plant will be connected to the national grid through the Ferreira Gomes substation, with a 10km long 230kV transmission line.
