Agreement to build Welsh biomass CHP plant

Engie has signed a 15-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with British investor and fund manager EquitixEngie logo to buy all the electricity generated by its biomass power plant in Wrexham, North Wales.

The à‚£25 million ($33.13 million) green energy project to be built by Equitix and the UK Green Investment Bank is expected to produce 4.8 MW per year of renewable energy, when it begins operation in 2018.

The combined heat and power plant, which will run on renewable biofuels, will supply heat to local manufacturing businesses as well as generate electricity.

Smaller capacity plants are estimated to play an important role in Britain’s future energy supply, as large-scale projects struggle to secure funding due to weak power prices.
