Spanish firm Acciona Energàƒa has opened its first wind power plant in Chile, with President Michelle Bachelet in attendance at the inauguration. à‚
The Punta Palmeras wind farm (pictured) has an installed capacity of 45 MW and is equipped with 3 MW wind turbines. Its power (about 124 GWh per year) will be transmitted to Chile’s Central Interconnected System (SIC).
In the coming years Acciona Energàƒa aims to invest roughly €400m to construct new wind and solar photovoltaic (PV) plants. These projects are expected to add 255 MW to Chile’s energy matrix.
