Spain’s Acciona Energía is to invest $343m to build Chile’s largest solar photovoltaic (PV) plant.

The El Romero Solar plant will have an installed capacity of around 246.6 MW, according to reports.

The building of the project will start soon, with plans to commission the facility in mid-2017.

Acciona Energía CEO Rafael Mateo said: “The start of construction work on El Romero Solar is a very significant milestone, one that will enable us to respond to our commitment to supply renewables-based power in Chile and strengthen our role in the country’s energy sector.”
