Wind and solar power up 16 per cent in OECD countries

Wind and solar power generation grew by 16 per cent among countries within the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) last year.

That’s out of a total share of 21.5 per cent generated by renewables, a report from the International Energy Agency (IEA) stated.

Power generation from wind grew 77TWh last year, out of whichà‚ 61TWh was generated in Europe. Solar production rose by 27TWh, led by a 10.4TWh rise in the Americas, it added.

Nuclear generation fell by 0.5 per cent across the OECD with total output at 1,878TWh.
