UN makes request to pause Hinkley Point C

A committee of the United Nations has asked the UK government to put the development of the Hinkley Point C nuclear pHinkley Point Cower plant on hold until a pending assessment of the environmental impact of the facility is completed.

The UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) requested the halt because of the UK Government’s failure to consult with European countries over the nuclear power project, according to the Guardian.

The UNECE said the government should consider refraining from further work on Hinkley C until it has heard back from other European countries over whether they needed to be notified under a UN convention on environmental impact assessment.
