Mexico lags in nuclear energy with only one plant and a law requiring the use of 35 per cent of clean energy sources by 2024.

Senator Jorge Luis Lavalle said that while in France 80 per cent of the energy comes from nuclear sources, in Mexico participation is low at 1.8 per cent.

“There are paradigms that exist around nuclear power, where misinformation generates a clear social rejection.

“This has meant that we have not had a proper debate on this source of power generation in our country,” said Lavalle.
