There was further bad news for the 1300 MW Visaginas nuclear power plant in Lithuania, as the project is now predicted to cost $2.6bn more than originally expected.

The plant will now cost in the region of $8.7bn, according to a statement from the government’s Ministry of Finance, having previously been estimated to cost $6.2bn.

Last month, the project took a positive step forward when the government signed a Concession Agreement with Hitachi Ltd.
