TOKYO, Sept. 18, 2000 (Jiji Press) à‚– Japan made clear its policy of promoting nuclear power generation at an annual general conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna Monday.
Japan’s Science and Technology Agency Director-General Tadamori Oshima in a speech there stated that Japan will promote nuclear power generation and establish a nuclear fuel cycle, agency officials here said.
Japan has strengthened safety regulations and taken other measures to prevent nuclear accidents following Japan’s worst nuclear mishap at a nuclear fuel processing plant in September last year, Oshima told the conference.
Oshima also called on IAEA member states to conclude a protocol at an early date to enhance the nuclear weapons nonproliferation framework.
