The US has seen nuclear reactor shutdowns as Hurricane Sandy bombarded the east coast of the country.
Three reactors were shut down due to electricity problems while a fourth remained in alert mode.
The three reactors to experience trips, or shutdowns, during the storm this week are Nine Mile Point 1 in Scriba, N.Y., Indian Point 3 in Buchanan, N.Y.; and Salem Unit 1 in Hancocks Bridge, N.J., the Nuclear Regulatory Commission said.
Meanwhile the fourth plant, Oyster Creek in New Jersey, remains in “alert” mode because of high water levels in its water intake structure.
