Japan’s nuclear operating capacity – already limited following the Fukushima disaster – has dropped further as a reactor has been taken offline for maintenance.

The 559 GW Genkai reactor was shutdown yesterday by operator Kyushu Electric for scheduled routine work.

This leaves Kyushu with just one operating reactor – the Genkai No 4 – and this is due for maintenance on December 25.

Yesterday’s shutdown of Genkai No 1 leaves Japan with just nine reactors operating out of the country’s total of 54.
