Fortum in further Fukushima purification deal

Finnish company Fortum has won another order from US waste company EnergySolutions for ion exchange materials to purify radioactive waters at the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear plant in Japan.

The firm’s ion exchange materials have been used in the plant’s Advanced Liquid Processing System (ALPS) to purify radioactive waters for the past three years.

Fortum has supplied ion exchange materials to Fukushima since spring 2012 and EnergySolutions’s latest order is one of Fortum’s largest deliveries of Nures ion exchange materials to date.

Fortum ” which initially developed the Nures product for use at its own Loviisa nuclear power plant ” says that its method “significantly reduces the need for intermediate and final disposal repository space for radioactive liquids”.
