Finnish government to review power source options

Oct. 16, 2000 (M2 Communications) à‚– The conclusions reached by a Finnish climate workgroup will be used as a basis for the government’s position regarding a fifth nuclear power plant, according to Sinikka Monkare, the Finnish minister of trade and industry.

The government will review the issue during the winter.

Monkare has said that the workgroup has two options: to make a recommendation for a fifth nuclear power plant or to find more alternative power sources, although the minister does not believe that a fifth power plant alone will be able to reduce the emission of so-called greenhouse gases to the level Finland has promised.
