The head of an energy firm and a “power engineer all my life,” today claimed that the industry “cannot make a nuclear plant safe enough”.

Colin Tam  Colin Tam, executive chairman of Crystal Vision Energy in Hong Kong, also lived 75 km from Three Mile Island nuclear power plant in Pennsylvania in the US when it suffered its devastating reactor meltdown in 1979.

  “I had to send my kids to live with my in-laws in New York because the milk was contaminated,” he told the audience at the opening panel discussion at POWER-GEN Asia in Bangkok today.

  And he posed the question that following Three Mile Island, Chernobyl and Fukushima: “Where is the fourth one going to happen?”

“If it is in China it will be an even bigger disaster because of the size of the population.”
