Iran’s first nuclear power plant has been “temporarily disconnected” for safety tests, says a government news website.

The Russian-built 1 GW Bushehr plant was linked to the national grid on 12 September and started generating electricity at 50 per cent of its capacity on 7 October.

The plant will be disconnected from the national grid for “several weeks” until it can operate at full capacity by the end of 2011, said Iranian officials.
