Bushehr, Iran’s first nuclear power plant, was connected to the national power grid on 3 September but with a capacity of only about 60 MW, according to Iran’s state-run Press TV.

The 1 GW Russian-built plant joined the national electricity network at 11.29 pm on Saturday, said Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization (AEOI), according to a report on Sunday on the network’s website.

Bushehr is scheduled to reach 40 per cent of its capacity at a ceremony on 12 September, according to Press TV.

Tests over the next few days will test the plant’s co-ordination with the national grid, said Press TV in a separate report.
