Progress was made towards the development of Bangladesh’s first nuclear power plant after parliament passed the country’s first nuclear energy bill.
Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission Chairman A.S.M. Firoz said he added that he hoped the bill will be signed into law by President Zillur Rahman in due course.
The nuclear power plant is expected to generate 2000 MW of electricity from two 1,000 MW units at Rooppur in Pabna district, about 200 kilometers north of Dhaka and is expected to commence being built in 2013.
