Alstom has been awarded a €5.1m contract to retrofit the generators at Paks nuclear power plant in central Hungary.

The 2000 MW plant provides 40 per cent of Hungary’s electricity and is vital to the country’s energy security.

Alstom Hungary will service the eight operating generators across four nuclear reactor blocks plus one spare generator in a deal with Paks NPP that offers improved operational reliability.

The Ganz generators commissioned between 1982 and 1987 have had regular services scheduled every ten-twelve years for the planned fifty year life of each block. Under the terms of the contract the services of each generator will be performed at a rate of one per year from 2013-2021.
