On-site wind energy company Wind Direct has achieved conditional planning consent for a single 1.5 MW commercial-scale wind turbine on behalf of its client, Skeddoway Farm in Fife.
The consent follows receipt of planning consent on land at neighbouring egg producer Noble Foods last August – wrapping up a brace of recent successful outcomes in Scotland for the on-site generation specialist.
It also underlines Wind Direct’s strength in the UK food industry whose clients include Greenvale AP, Dewlay Cheesemakers and Mars Complementary Petcare.
Amongst other requirements, the Skeddoway Farm wind turbine will supply energy direct to the site’s 10,000 tonne cold storage unit, with any excess energy being exported to the local grid network.
The turbine will provide the farm with a diversified income and a sustainable future, as well as bringing with it all of the environmental benefits of using green energy.
Richard Brown, owner of Skeddoway Farm said: “The installation of the wind turbine will bring balance to our farming business and by reducing our carbon footprint, makes our produce more attractive to supermarkets, retailers and their customers. It also ties in well with our commitment to growing foods that meet the ‘Natures Choice’ standard.”
Construction on the Skeddoway project is likely to commence in winter this year, with energisation of the turbine expected by Summer 2013. Development Manager for the project, Roy Ferguson said:
