Weltec Power is building a 2.4 MW biogas plant on Pomerania, Poland, the country’s first such facility.
Plant operator NEWD will ferment the potato waste of a local chip manufacturer, as well as using maize and liquid manure feedstocks, reports Bioenergy Insight.
A release from Weltec states that experts believe Poland has the third-largest stock of resources in Europe. Poland’s agricultural area amounts to about 18.5 million hectares, which is about 1.5 million more than Germany.
Decentralised power and heat generation is also subsidised in Poland and, to reach EU climate goals, it aims to increase the share of renewable energies for generation from five to 15 per cent by 2020.
