Finland’s Wartsila has won a contract to supply seven 20V32 gensets with a total output of 52 MW to Hail Cement Company, a Saudi Arabian cement manufacturer, where they will provide electricity for on-site use.
The engines will run on heavy fuel oil (HFO), but can switch to light fuel oil (LFO) as a back-up fuel.
The equipment is scheduled to be delivered during 2012, and complete construction of the plant is expected to take 15 months.
According to Wartsila, approximately 70 per cent of Saudi cement manufacturing facilities are powered by its power plants.
Matar Ali Al Zahrani, president of Hail Cement, said: “A key requirement in awarding this contract was that the generating equipment could reliably operate with undiminished efficiency in the hot and sandy conditions that prevail in Saudi Arabia.”
