UK approves 195 green projects

The UK government has greenlighted 195 projects to generate 843 MW of renewable electricity under its fourth Non-Fossil Fuel Obligation Order. The average production price for the projects, spanning the period 1997 to 2016, is 3.46 pence/kWh, a significant decrease from the projects in the last Non-Fossil Fuel Order, which averaged 4.35 pence/kWh.

The 195 projects include 70 landfill gas, 65 wind energy, 31 small hydroelectric, 10 waste-fired combined heat and power, seven biomass gasification, six anaerobic digestion of farm waste and six waste-fired fluidized bed combustion. The government has stated a goal of 1,500 MW of new renewable generation capacity by 2000.
