Spanish utilities consider network sale

3 October 2002 – Utilities Endesa and Union Fenosa are considering selling their electricity transportation networks to reduce their debts, Expansion reported Thursday.
Mirroring a similar move from Iberdrola which could raise a potential €577m for that company, Endesa could generate up to €1bn through the sale of its transportation assets, while Union Fenosa could raise up to €400m, the paper said. The sales would require government approval, according to the report.
