S. Korea`s IPP coming in 2000
LG Energy Co., Seoul, a subsidiary for the South Korean LG Group, has contracted Siemens Power Generation Group (KWU) to supply the Bugok combined-cycle power plant with two gas turbines, one steam turbine, the associated generators and the entire instrumentation and control system for South Korea`s first privately operated power plant. Siemens will also supervise the construction and commissioning of the 500 MW plant which will be located around 120 km southwest of Seoul.
In May 2000, the power plant`s gas turbine-generators will go on line; combined-cycle duty is scheduled to commence at the beginning of 2001 when the steam turbine-generator is connected. The plant, which will attain an efficiency of 58.8 percent, will be operated primarily on natural gas, with oil as its alternate fuel. LG Energy will feed the electrical energy generated by the power plant to the state-owned grid.
