Nuclear plant orders
Weir Pumps and the group`s two valvemakers, Hopkinsons and Atwood & Morrill, have been awarded contracts worth over $20 million to supply equipment to Taiwan Power Company`s Lungmen nuclear power station.
Weir Pumps` contracts are worth a total of $10 million. The pumps are for a variety of duties and a mixture of ASME III Class II and III designs, and will perform a number of safety related and auxiliary duties within the nuclear island.
Some 150 valves will be supplied for the plant`s two units which will be designed and built by GE Nuclear. Hopkinson`s contract, worth à‚£3.5 million ($6 million), includes the supply of gate, globe and check valves.
Hopkinson`s contract is the company`s largest single order since its orders for the Sizewell B project in the UK in 1988.
The Lungmen project is based on a 2 x 1350 MW advanced boiling water reactor design.
