Nearly 160 companies have expressed interest in bidding for an energy tender to be held in Panama.

The tender covers approximately 43 per cent of the expected power demand between 2018 and 2033, according to official reports.

Ivan Barria, general manager of the Electricity Transmission Company SA(Etesa), said the tender seeks new thermal generation plants. Etesa published its plans for bids earlier this year.

The tender is expected to reach 350 MW of installed capacity, which should enter Panama’s energy system from March 2018.
