Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) and Tokyo Gas Co. have announced joint development of a new 1000 kW gas engine cogeneration system.

The new system is based on the conventional 930 kW gas engine cogeneration system, but engine maintenance frequency has been lowered by reducing the friction wear of the engine components through lowering the engine speed from 1500 to 1000 rpm, the companies said.

New long-stroke pistons have increased generating output and reduced the engine’s rated speed, while upgraded engine control technologies have contributed to achieving a generating efficiency of 42.3% as well as an overall efficiency of 78.5%.

The width of the enclosure has been reduced by 500 mm in order to serve more customers with varied installation conditions.

The system will produce 583 kg/hr of steam, 1605.8 MJ/hr of hot water, and 209.5 Nm3/hr of city gas.

Both companies are scheduled to begin sales of the system on 1 November.
