Manila awaits 900 MW plant
First Gas Power Corp., a private joint venture established by the First Philippine Holdings Corp. and British Gas power line carrier, has selected Siemens Power Generation Group for the turnkey construction of a 990 MW combined-cycle power plant in Santa Rita, Batagas City, located 100 km south of Manila. Each 495 MW block will include two gas turbines and two steam turbines in a single-shaft arrangement.
The plant is expected to achieve an overall efficiency of 56.6 percent. It will operate first on diesel oil, then on natural gas. The first block is scheduled to go on line at the end of 1998, with the second block to follow in early 1999. The project will also include installation of fuel pipelines and two 40 km power transmission lines with extensions to associated substations.
