9 April 2002 – Logica today announced the successful ‘go live’ of SAP’s product lifecycle management solution for GPU Power UK (GPU), the electricity distribution company for Birmingham and the West Midlands area, signalling the completion of a key asset management transformation programme.
GPU is now able to integrate the essential processes and systems that gather and analyse high quality, accurate information about its distribution assets. The company now collects condition data using hand-held devices, has improved capabilities for analysing asset related data, and has increased its understanding of the asset database.
This SAP solution will enable the company to streamline its processes and meet essential regulatory standards, including managing and optimising capital and operating expenditure costs, and capturing, monitoring and reviewing the condition of assets.
Kenton Bradbury, Director of Asset Management at GPU, says, “We have been delighted by the level of support received from Logica throughout this process. The company has been both flexible and responsive in identifying the business and IT requirements for the success of this system, which will be critical to our future achievements in the UK.”
“This successful implementation at GPU reinforces Logica’s leading role at the heart of the rapidly changing energy and utility markets across the globe,” says Mark Stevens, SAP Energy and Utilities Line of Business Manager at Logica. “Logica’s systems integration capability and knowledge of this industry sector means that we are able to position our customers at the forefront of their industries, providing innovative technology solutions and, ultimately, a competitive advantage.”
Dudley Feather, Service Industries Business Unit Manager at SAP, comments, “Regulatory changes and competition are putting increasing pressure on utility companies to operate world class asset management systems combined with visible, efficient processes. The modern asset database, modelling system and strong functional fit offered by SAP has therefore been a key element in this implementation, enabling GPU Power UK to realise its objectives and leverage best practice in its industry.”
Logica provided essential systems integration and implementation expertise for GPU’s mySAP PLM system, which incorporates the modules of Plant Maintenance, Investment Management, Project System and Document Management, supported by elements of Financials, Controlling and Materials Management.
