Finnish firm to build Central America’s first LNG-fired power plant

Finland’s Wartsila is set to build what will be the largest power plant in Central America, and the region’s first to run on liquefied natural gas (LNG). à‚ 

The 378à‚ MWà‚ Flexicycle plant in El Salvador will feed electricity to the national grid and is scheduled for completion in 2018.

Raàƒºl Carral, business development manager at Wärtsilä Energy Solutions, said: “This landmark project will produce the cleanest thermal energy in El Salvador, and it will lower the price of electricity in the country” because LNG is cheaper than oil, the firm said.
