Enron explores online world

US energy company Enron is expected to announce an alliance with RealNetworks to offer high quality video to internet service providers and big corporations over a nationwide fibre-optic network it has been building. The deal would be Enron`s first major foray into the online world.

Like many energy companies, Enron has been laying fibre throughout the country and plans to have about 15,000 miles (24,100 km) in place by the end of the year.

Enron would provide a package of products to customers called the “Enron Intelligent Network”. RealNetworks` software, which allows users to access videos, news shows and music on their computers would be the first significant product.
