Engine efficiency tech wins innovation prize

The UK‘s €20,000 ($22,600) Climate-KIC cash prize has been won by technology firm Libertine FPE for its free piston technology that increases efficiency for engines and small power generators. Libertine develops linear electrical machines and free piston gas-expander systems for use in a range of power generation, heating, cooling and vehicle applications. This approach can produce a third more power from the same fuel or heat source, the company claims.

Sam Cockerill, CEO at Libertine, commented:à‚ ‘In 2015 we will be demonstrating real world applications and how our technology can transform the efficiency and economics of decentralised power generation.’
