Dam funding falling short

Total cost of the Three Gorges Dam project is expected to near (US)$24.58 billion, exceeding funding by (US)$3.7 billion by the year 2005, according to the latest estimates, as stated in the Economic Daily. Revenue from the Gezhouba Dam, sited downstream from Three Gorges, and funding raised by the Three Gorges Project Foundation, will be diverted to the dam, contributing an estimated (US)$12 billion. Additional funding is in the form of loans from the State Development Bank. Once the dam begins generating electricity, it will also generate funding for itself, but part of the proceeds will be reinvested.
