Bank of Bahrain standby power
Standby power for Bahrain`s tallest building, the 140 m-high National Bank of Bahrain headquarters, will be provided by two Cummins generating sets.
Both sets, ordered through local distributor Yusuf Bin Ahmed Kanoo are each rated at 1099 kW, 1374 kVA and powered by Cummins Vee-16 cylinder KTA50G3 diesel engines.
The gensets have been installed in two purpose-built plant rooms located on the fifth floor of the building. The plant rooms feature air inlet and outlet attenuators and twin-silenced exhausts fitted to both sets.
Bahrain-based Airmech, the project mechanical and electrical contractor, de-signed and installed the mechanical, electrical and plumbing services for the building including the two gensets plus high voltage and low-voltage switchgear.
Five HV/LV transformers have been installed by Airmech, each feeding a five section LV panel. Two sections are dedicated to essential supplies with one Cummins set providing automatic power in the event of a utility power failure to each section.
The first section, via a bus bar, supplies an essential distribution board on the lower floors; with the second supplying the upper floors in a similar installation.
Essential services include all safety systems such as fire detection, smoke clearances, lifts, access controls, air fans plus small power sockets and lighting.
The Cummins generating sets also include a Power Command Control microprocessor-based generating set monitoring system, metering and a control system with Ampsentry protection, eliminating the need for a circuit breaker.
