Advanced transmission protection relay
GE Power Management has launched the latest addition to its Universal Relay (UR) family of advanced relay products for substation automation, the L90 Line Current Differential Relay.
The L90 demonstrates sensitive and accurate fault sensing for transmission line protection through an Adaptive Dynamic Restraint system. Optional backup distance protection is also provided in order to cover for the loss of communication links.
The Adaptive Dynamic Restraint scheme is superior to traditional percentage restraint schemes, according to GE. The L90 can be applied on or adjacent to series compensated lines with two or three terminals for single phase or three phase tripping.
The L90 relay also features the new open standard EPRI UCA MMS/Ethernet protocol, which enables it to combine high speed communication capabilities with modularity and field-programmable Flex-Logic control for substation automation.
