Gulf Power has awarded an operations and maintenance contract to Wartsila for a new power plant to be built near Nairobi, Kenya.

The GPL power plant will be powered by Wärtsilä engines running on heavy fuel oil and will have an electrical output capacity of 80 MW.

“The power plant is designed with high operating efficiency, low generating costs, and reliability as key criteria, and these are all areas where Wärtsilä excels,” said Wärtsilä Services general manager South Europe and Africa A P Singh.

The plant is scheduled to be complete by September 2013.
