UK utility Centrica has postponed plans to construct a 2 GW combined-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) plant in central England.
The proposed Brigg 2 power station was to be located at the site of the existing Glanford Brigg power station, near the town of Brigg in north Lincolnshire.

“We are now assessing a number of options including further investment to extend the life of the existing plant,” said a spokesman for Centrica.

The proposal for a new Brigg CCGT plant had also set aside land for future carbon capture and storage technology, Centrica said. The utility was due to submit a consent application for the new power plant to the IPC in March, but asked for the projects to be withdrawn from the list of live projects in a letter dated 20 December 2010.

The existing 260 MW Glanford Brigg CCGT is expected to run until at least 2013.
