Samsung in joint venture to build Saudi gas-fired power plant

Samsung and Acwa Power have been chosen to build the $1.21bn combined cycle gas-fired power plant at Rabigh 2 in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

After winning the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) deal, Samsung C&T said it plans to complete the 2100 MW project by 2017 under a deal with Saudi Electricity Company, the state-run power producer.

The consortium will have a 50 per cent share of the operating company that will run the project, Al Mourjan for Electricity Production Company, with state-owned utility Saudi Electricity Co holding the remaining 50 per cent.
