Recycled microturbine installation completed in Ontario

The installation of a portable natural gas microturbine cogeneration plant has been completed by Ontario’s Burlington Electricity Services Inc. as part of the Canadian city’s Community Energy Plan (CEP).Burlington waterfront

Situated at the south side of Burlington Hydro’s facility in the city, the unit will provide heat and electricity to the company’s office building. An interconnection into the building’s electrical supply and heating system delivers 90 kWe, enough to offset one third of the building’s peak load and also provides sufficient heat for much of the building.

Bob Delaney, MPP, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Energy, commented: ‘Projects like this one not only offer a sustainable way to generate electricity, they can also provide valuable insights for other organizations considering the benefits of future cogeneration or district heating projects in the Burlington area.’
