Brazilian company MPX is to build a gas-fired power station in the northern state of Maranhao, in partnership with a subsidiary of Kinross Gold Corporation of Canada.

The thermal plant’s capacity is 56 MW, Spanish news agency Efe reports.

The project will be located beside the Parnaiba river basin, where OGX, another subsidiary of EBX, owns huge natural gas reserves.

For the rights to operate the plant, Kinross Brasil Mineracao has paid $27m to MPX.
