The New York Container Terminal (NYCT) facility in Staten Island, New York is to be the site of six new natural gas-fired air-cooled chillers from Tecogen Inc.

Expected to cut electric demand for the facility (pictured) by as much as 300 kW, the TECOCHILL chillers will allow the NYCT facility to produce the refrigeration needed for a 66,400 square foot (6000 m2) climate-controlled warehouse for temperature sensitive cargo.

‘Tecogen’s natural gas-powered systems provide customers with a hedge against rising electricity costs. With plentiful supplies of more environmentally friendly natural gas keeping energy prices steady, customers with power hungry applications can more easily predict energy costs,’ said Robert Panora, president and COO of Tecogen.

‘Cutting our energy consumption and costs is a win-win for NYCT and the Staten Island community,’ added Thomas Fallon, NYCT’s vice president of Maintenance & Repair Services.
