Engie has decided to close its Twinerg combined cycle power plant by October of this year.Twinerg combined cycle power plant

Although sited in Luxembourg, the 385 MW gas-fired power plant had been part of Belgium’s strategic reserve last winter but its operators now feel they can no longer operate the facility on an economical and legal basis.

Engie owns a majority (65 per cent) of the shares, while Enovos (Luxemburg) and ArcelorMittal each hold 17.5 per cent. The owners have been seeking a buyer, but unsuccessfully.

Natural Gas Europe website reports that gas demand in the power generation sector rose last year in Luxemburg but the outlook is bleak in Belgium. EDF Luminus announced its intention to close four of its gas-fired power plants recently.
