AES Dominicana has selected Tecnicas Reunidas of Spain to lead the project to convert Dominican Power Partners’ (DPP) power generating asset to an efficient natural gas-fired, combined-cycle plant.

According to a statement issued by the Dominican firm, the conversion project will raise the current plant output from 210 MW to 324 MW, allowing DPP to increase the amount of electricity it feeds into SENI, the national interconnected grid.

The project is anticipated to cost in excess of $260m.

This project is part of the Dominican Republic’s government drive towards creating a power generation mix that is more efficient, with natural gas making a significant contribution.
