A contract for a 40 MW combined heat and power (CHP) plant in Kazakhstan has been secured by Wärtsilä.

The company will supply a power plant for LLP KazAzot, which will provide electricity and steam for process industry near the city of Aktau. The facility produces products for agriculture and mining.

Under the terms of the deal, equipment delivery includes four Wärtsilä 34SG engines running on natural gas, cogeneration units for steam generation, mechanical and electrical accessories, balance of plant, as well as civil materials supply.

The new CHP plant is scheduled to be operational in late 2016.
