Swedish construction group Skanska has won an engineering, procurement and construction contract for a 550 MW natural gas fuelled power plant that will supply the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro.

Skanska’s contract has a value of US $490 million, which will be included in order bookings for the last three months of this year. The customer is energy firm Petrobras.

The company, which is the single contractor of the project, will build the plant 75 kilometers away from Rio de Janeiro and 350 kilometers from São Paulo. The construction is expected to start immediately.
