The Egyptian Electricity Company (EEHC) has invited contractors to submit bids for the contract to build a gas-fired power plant in the Suef area.
The proposed plant will have an initial simple-cycle power plant with a capacity of 900-1,000 MW, which will be converted to combined-cycle for the next phase. Contractors have been invited to submit bids by 3 January for the power plant contract.
Demand for power in Egypt is expected to grow consistently at 6 per cent per year until 2022, with the government targeting the procurement of 54 GW of capacity to meet it.
Siemens will build the plants in partnership with the local Orascom Construction and El-Sewedy Electric.
